HUG goes to Wrexham
Wrexham Council took delivery of a few HUG by LAUGH® to be distributed to people living with dementia, in the community. In a launch event on Wednesday, organised by Wrexham Borough Council, Adult Social Care Commissioning Team, Cathy shared the story behind HUG and presented a number of HUGs to the team.
Finalist in the National Dementia Care Awards 2018
HUG by LAUGH® has been selected for the final in the Outstanding Dementia Care Product 2018 category at the National Dementia Care Awards 2018.
HUG by LAUGH® was nominated by staff from Llys Y Seren, Pobl: Gwalia Care & Support in Port Talbot.
Professor Treadaway said: “We are delighted to have been nominated for this award and to have reached the finals of the competition. The design for HUG was developed from our AHRC research partnership with Pobl Gwalia Care and Support and we acknowledge the important support of residents, staff and management that enabled the design research to take place.”

LAUGH project featured in Design Week
The LAUGH project has been featured in Design Week‘s top picks to see at London Design Fair 2018. The project was part of the Design Research for Change exhibition which showcased 67 Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded Design research projects.

The LAUGH project will be featured in the Design Research for Change Showcase, part of the London Design Fair 2018. The exhibition showcases 67 AHRC-funded design research projects at the Old Truman Brewery, London from 20th – 23rd September 2018. Design for Health 2018, Sheffield
Cathy and Gail presented two LAUGH papers at the Design 4 Health, 5th International Conference in Sheffield, 4-6th September 2018.
The paper’s were titled ‘Designing for playfulness through compassion: design for advanced dementia’ and ‘Evaluation or anecdote? Understanding the impact of design’ and will be available on our publications page in due course.

Dementia Awareness Day 2018, Chapter
Members of the LAUGH team held a Hand i Pocket funshop for Dementia Awareness Day. The funshop was held at Chapter in Cardiff, where we made sensory textile pockets for people living with dementia.
